5 Ways to Stay Hydrated Internally and Externally

Proper hydration is essential for overall health and well-being. Not only does it keep your organs functioning optimally, but it also plays a role in maintaining healthy skin and energy levels. Here are five effective ways to stay hydrated both internally and externally:

1. Drink Plenty of Water

The most obvious way to stay hydrated is by drinking enough water throughout the day. Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water daily to keep your body hydrated and functioning properly. A good way to measure how much water your body should be taking in is by your body weight. For example, if you are 100 lbs, then you should be taking in half your body weight in ounces, which will lead to 50 oz per day.

Drinking water has a number of important benefits for the body, including:

  1. Hydration: Drinking water helps to keep the body hydrated, which is essential for proper functioning of organs and systems.

  2. Digestive health: Water aids in digestion and helps prevent constipation by keeping the digestive system functioning properly.

  3. Weight management: Drinking water can help with weight management by making you feel full and reducing the likelihood of overeating.

  4. Brain function: Proper hydration is important for optimal brain function, including focus, concentration, and mental clarity.

  5. Energy levels: Staying hydrated can help maintain energy levels and combat fatigue.

  6. Skin health: Adequate water intake is beneficial for skin health, helping to keep the skin moisturized and promoting a healthy complexion.

  7. Detoxification: Water is essential for flushing toxins out of the body and maintaining proper kidney function

2. Consume Hydrating Foods

Incorporate fruits and vegetables with high water content into your diet, such as watermelon, cucumbers, and oranges. These foods not only provide hydration but also essential nutrients for overall health. Let us not forget essential fatty acids; this is the glue that keeps hydration locked and loaded. A good Omega-3 supplement is part of this equation. Omega-3 fatty acids, like those in fish oil, help hydrate the skin by moisturizing it, leading to younger, healthier-looking skin and potentially reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Research shows that omega-3s have beneficial effects on skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema.

3. Use Hydrating Skincare Products

To maintain hydration externally, use moisturizers and skincare products that are designed to hydrate and nourish your skin. Look for products containing hyaluronic acid or glycerin, which help lock in moisture. My top-rated hydrating serum that has science-backed proof of its efficacy is Epicutis skincare. This is the epitome of deep hydration. This clean beauty standard formulation is recognized across the globe and for good reason. The anti-inflammatory properties of this serum are like giving your skin electrolytes and ibuprofen all in one.

4. Limit Caffeine and Alcohol

Both caffeine and alcohol can dehydrate the body, so it's important to consume them in moderation. If you do indulge in these beverages, be sure to drink additional water to counteract their dehydrating effects. A good way of incorporating more hydration post coffee is herbal tea with one scoop of Oragins Probiotic and Collagen unflavored powder ( find at Costco). Every morning after I have my coffee, I incorporate my tea ritual.

Having a tea ritual will help with many elements of your skin and body journey. Choose your favorite tea. For Morning Peppermint mixed with Mullein leaf will help with digestion and mucus production (this is especially helpful for people who add dairy to their coffee beverages). For the evening, Lavender with chamomile and mint is a good mix for a dreamy sleep. Add half a teaspoon of finely ground flaxseed powder ( omega rich) and collagen powder. My favorite is Orgain's collagen and probiotic unflavored powder. Mix well and drink. Do this, and in 2-3 months, you will see:

  1. Skin Health: Collagen is a major component of the skin, and supplementing with collagen powder may help improve skin elasticity, hydration, and overall appearance.

  2. Joint Health: Some studies suggest that collagen supplements can help reduce joint pain and improve joint function in people with osteoarthritis and other joint disorders.

  3. Bone Health: Collagen is a key component of bones, and taking collagen powder may help improve bone density and strength.

  4. Muscle Mass: Collagen is important for muscle function and may help support muscle growth and repair.

  5. Gut Health: Collagen may help support the integrity of the gut lining and promote digestive health.

  6. Hair and Nail Health: Some people believe that collagen supplements can help improve the strength and appearance of hair and nails.

5.Humidity in the Air

Depending on your geographical area, humidity varies, but as we all know, during the winter, humidity is a lot lower. A good way to combat this is by adding a cool mist humidifier in your room at night and slightly cracking the door. This will help the hydration to be stabilized in the air while you sleep, helping to keep a balanced environment for your skin to thrive.
